Feeling Hardcore!

My enthusiasm for training has miraculously returned today and I am feeling much more confident again!

What has happened to change my negative mind set?

Strangely enough it was an extremely windy bike ride!

The Tri Club I go to have always done Saturday morning rides but these are always full of the super speedy types who I have no chance of keeping up with and have never attempted to as I wouldn't want to embarrass myself!

However, the committee have obviously seen the error of their ways and to encourage the novice triathlete they are now doing a "beginners"  ride as well as the other and this morning was the first outing!

When I got up this morning I couldn't believe it when I looked out the window and it was blowing a gale!  I am primarily a fair weather cyclist and not very confident so I was a little daunted at the thought of cycling in the wind!

However, I decided that as it was the first session I needed to go and support the clubs efforts.

The 1 mile ride to the rendezvous point was pretty scary and I had to force myself not to turn around and go home!

There was 7 of us mad enough to take on the elements and the plan was a 22 mile cycle with a coffee stop half way!

I was surprised how quickly I gained confidence and even began to enjoy it despite being battered around the place!  I tried my best to huddle behind the menfolk for protection!

It was a great ride, at a very relaxed slow pace so we could chat and socialise along the way!

I thought after stopping for a cappuccino and toasted teacake I would struggle to get going again but I felt fine!

All in all we did 25 miles and I felt invincible by the end!

You can view our route here.

We were also extremely fortunate!  No sooner had I got safely inside my nice warm cosy home and the heavens opened - not just with rain but with hailstones!

Hailstones AND wind might just have finished me off!

Unfortunately due to prior arrangements I won't be able to make the ride next Saturday but I will definitely be a regular from now on!

BRING IT ON!

Back to the safety of running tomorrow!
