In the fast lane ...

Tonight I went swimming at the local Leisure Centre.

I don't usually swim on a Tuesday night and I was amazed by how much quieter it was than a Monday!  Unless it was just a fluke!

When I first got there the "slow" lane had a couple of the usual blue rinse breaststroke brigade in and the "fast" lane just had one man in who didn't look like he was going very fast so for the first time EVER I braved it ... and entered the fast lane!

I felt quite comfortable going up and down at my own pace as the man already in wasn't any faster than me ... then after about 10 minutes they let the future Olympian in!

EEKKKKK! All of a sudden I went from being comfortable to feeling totally stressed at getting my toes tapped, and then being overtaken at high speed!

I held my ground for a few lengths thinking the blue rinse brigade don't care about holding me up so why should I worry about holding these super fast swimmers up!

After I had swum 800m I decided to admit defeat and went and joined the blue rinse brigade!  Back to being the one overtaking and stressing people out ... but to be honest I don't think they even notice someone else is trying to get past!

Anyhow I managed 1700m (1.05 miles) in 40 minutes.  My fastest 400m was 8 minutes 13 secs.  I thought I might have got a PB just by swimming in the fast lane but that wasn't to be!  Still stuck at 7:56.

Swimming with the Tri Club tomorrow night!  Not used to doing 2 nights in a row!

At least the blue rinse brigade won't be there!
