It all begins ...

Today may be the last day of the school holidays but it is also the first day of my Triathlon Training Plan and the first day of Jantastic!

What is Jantastic I hear you cry?

Well it's a simple, free fitness challenge to keep you motivated and achieve your personal performance goals January through til March.

You can:

  • set your own personal targets.
  • choose to run, cycle or swim or do a combination of all three.
  • create/join a team or do it solo.

I have joined the "Run for Fun" team and for January I have set a target of 2 swims, 2 runs and 2 cycles per week.

For a Triathlon training plan I have decided to follow the Tri Trainer I-phone app which also consists of 2 runs, 2 swims and 2 rides a week!

The thinking is if I stick to the training plan I stick to Jantastic too!!

So I am ready in the weeks ahead to:

LACE UP MY TRAINERS,
TURN THE PEDALS,
PLUNGE IN THE POOL and
COMMIT TO MY WORKOUTS... whatever life throws at me along the way!

SO LETS GO!

Join me on my journey!  I will need your support!

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this triathlon training lark and I am feeling pretty scared right now!

Today I did my first swim session on the plan and got rather carried away and did more than scheduled.

The plan said to swim 750 metres but I ended up swimming 1600 metres, 64 lengths or 0.99 of a mile in 46 minutes.  You can view my workout here.

Probably not a good start if I was thinking clearly - I certainly don't want to be wiped out by over-training! I will try and rein myself in alittle and stick to the plan in future!

I wanted to get a "starting base" time so I can easily see if I improve over the coming 16 weeks until my first triathlon!

Within the total distance I swam today I did a 400 metres and a 200 metres timed swim.

I completed the 400 metres (16 lengths) in 9 minutes 10 seconds, and the 200 metres (8 lengths) in 4 minutes 35 seconds. According to the Swimsmooth website this gives me a critical swim speed (CSS) of  2.18 per 100 metres to base my swimming on.

It's a run tomorrow - Lets GO! GO! GO!
