It has been quite a bizarre day weather wise, almost like 4 seasons in one day! It started off this morning bright and sunny, then we had wind and rain, then we had sleet to finish off the day!
I was slightly apprehensive about going in the lake as it was very windy which usually equals very choppy!
However, my swimming partner was back from his holidays and he wasn't going to let me wimp out so I found myself shivering at the shores of windermere at 6pm in the cold wind looking out onto a choppy lake!
I tried not to contemplate it too long before getting in and swimming our agreed route!
Once I got in the temperature of the lake didn't feel too bad, but the chop was throwing me around like a ragdoll! At one point I thought I might get seasick! I was really pleased that I managed to control my negative thoughts and continued battling on!
It was hard work and I felt like I had swum much further than the 0.41 miles I actually did swim!
The shivers really took hold of me once I got out! I think the air temperature must be much lower than in recent weeks!
I have now swum for 51 weeks - I am nearly at my 1 year goal!!!
I have dabbled with Triathlons and have decided that for now I am going to concentrate on running and Open Water Swimming! I am very lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in the UK and to have Lake Windermere as my local playground!

A Cold Club Run or Two!
Tonight was my Ladies Running Club and I had planned 2 off road runs now that the nights are light and the weather is dry!
Although it was very cold and quite windy I had two lovely and very enjoyable runs.
The first group went 4.47 miles and the second group went 4.19 miles.
There was one hairy moment when we had to go through a field of cows, which is something I am not keen on at the best of times! Luckily, Sue a lady in the group was very brave and managed to steer them away from us! I am not sure I could wave my arms and shout at them quite so confidently but it seemed to do the trick!

My first Solo swim!
Today I went for a swim in Lake Windermere, alone for the very first time!
Although being safety conscious I wasn't totally alone as I took my husband and dog along as a "land spotter", I just didn't have anyone in the water with me!
My swimming buddy has gone on holiday so I decided rather than miss my usual weekend swim I would go alone!
It was a bright but cool afternoon and the lake was busy with boats which added to the stress of it all, although I had my tow float and green hat so I was fairly visible!
My plan was to swim close to the shore so if something happened my husband had half a chance of rescuing me or at least throwing a life ring to me!
I put all these negative thoughts out my head before getting in!
The lake was calm and I set off without thinking too much about being alone!
I was pleasantly surprised that once I got swimming I didn't once think about the fact I was alone until I got to our "turn around" spot and I had no one to chat to!
When I emerged from the lake the dog got very excited to see me although he hadn't attempted to swim with me - he obviously isn't THAT devoted!!
I managed half a mile which I am pleased about considering the lake is still chilly and I was on my own!

Resting!
I haven't done much exercise this week mainly because I have been very busy at work and I have felt absolutely drained after Sundays triathlon!
Last night and tonight I have done absolutely nothing, which I hope will be perfect preparation for the Wray Scarecrow 10K I am running tomorrow!
With a good night's sleep I will be raring to go and there will be no stopping me!
Fingers crossed this plan works!

Tri Club Training
Today has been another beautiful day and I did consider whether to go swimming or not - after all who wants cooped up in a grotty pool on a lovely sunny evening when they could be sat in the garden with a glass of wine in hand!
However, I forced myself to go and soon discovered that everyone else obviously had had my "garden thoughts" and had followed them as it was very very quiet!
I just had one other swimmer in my lane!
We had an evening of drills - which I hate at the best of times and tonight I certainly wasn't feeling it!
I didn't enjoy the session at all and wished I had stayed at home!
However, I did do 1850 metres so its not all bad!

Another week!
I have got over my disappointment in my performance at yesterdays Triathlon! Time to move on!
Last night I did 2 runs with Women on the Run (my Ladies running club), and thoroughly enjoyed both!
It had been a fabulous day weather wise and it was a fantastic evening for a run!
The first group ran 4.39 miles at an average 10.08 minute mile pace and we didn't have to loop back to pick up any runners who were getting left behind!
The second group ran 4.46 miles at an average 11.29 minute mile pace which included several loop-backs to pick up the back-runners! The back-runners ran 3.7 miles at an average 14.47 minute mile pace!
I am so proud of both groups who have all come on marvelously since they started running!
I am also very proud of my legs which kept going through both groups despite feeling exceptionally tired after yesterdays Triathlon!
Today was another bright and sunny spring day which was perfect for an evening swim in Lake Windermere! The water temperature is slowly creeping up and tonight it didn't feel cold at all - well not with a wetsuit on, 2 hats, gloves and socks!
It wasn't completely still but it wasn't choppy enough to bother me!
I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I could have swam forever!!!
We swam 0.60 miles altogether which is the longest lake swim I have done this year!
Bring on warmer days and longer lake swims!
